ADV.03 The Culture of Tea Around the World
A cup of tea is much more than a pleasing beverage. It is the culmination of careful cultivation, backbreaking labor, artisanal craftsmanship, thoughtful preparation and centuries if not millennia of history. With each sip, we are not only being nourished by the fragrant liquor, we are imbued with the essence of the people and the cultures that have shaped the leaves. This course is an exploration of the inextricable influence of cultures and their traditions on how the world enjoys tea today. Learn how tea lovers around the world partake of tea in their everyday lives as well as in tea ceremonies and rituals which elevate tea drinking to an art form, and even to the height of spiritual exercise. Besides developing a deeper appreciation for the colorful tea cultures of the world, the insights and knowledge gained from this course are valuable to tea business owners and staff. Attract more interest in products and events or add more effectiveness to marketing strategies by sharing the vibrant tea cultures of the world.
By the end of this course you will be able to:

One of my favorite things about tea is learning how it is served and enjoyed by different cultures so this class was a favorite! Delving into China, Japan, India, Sri Lanka, Russia, Europe and North America's tea culture was enlightening and very interesting. Loved it!

I appreciate the nuggets of tea history, and the many helpful videos and extra resources in this course. You truly get out what you put in here. I was left with one strong desire though - I want to find an Indian clay "kullad" cup! I'll be asking friends to search for me on future travels.

This course was really fun! A lot of interesting information and videos that allow you to observe tea being drank in other countries (China, India). The course made me think critically about tea culture around me and how it relates to history, social status, and resources.

Excellent summary of the historical, cultural & social history of tea spanning all the major tea countries. I appreciate the additional resource material.......It'll take a while longer to absorb all the material that was offered in this course. Very introspective - enjoyed it!

What a great course! I really enjoyed to learn about tea cultures. The videos are a good way of see tea processes around the world. The highlight of course was preparing and conducting a tea ceremony!

Awesome course! It was a lot of reading but it was nice because it was packed full of information and I learned a lot. The reading was a nice change from doing cuppings like how we have to do in the other classes. In fact, I'm glad there weren't any cupping assignments for this class because with the amount of reading we had to do I think adding cuppings on top of that would have been too much. I especially liked learning about the British history and culture parts of this course.

Loved this course! I have learned so much and cannot wait to share it with the patrons of my tea room. I attemded 2 World Tea Expos, and due to the demands of my business it has been difficult to get away to attend the Expo again. This is the next best thing to being there! I am looking forward to taking more WTA courses in the future.
