ADV.11 Blending, Flavoring, Scenting
Many companies jump into the fun world of flavoring and blending teas themselves without really knowing the consequences of bringing these manufacturing processes in-house. The class material addresses important aspects of the operational concerns of applying these techniques within your company’s settings as we explore the three main techniques used today by tea professionals to scent, flavor and blend teas and other botanicals. During each week’s hands-on learning you will have the opportunity to taste some of the more famous teas, as well as hands-on assignments to develop your own skills at applying these techniques. Course author is Scott Svihula. Click here to read his bio.
By taking this class you will know:
• Operational considerations for in house manufacturing processes including: OSHA, EFSA, FDA regulations, and the FD&C Act.
• Standard practices and paperwork chain for labeling of organic, kosher, and halal.

• Code of practice of the International Organization of the Flavor Industry (IOFI)
• Guidelines of flavoring agents and labeling: Natural, WONF, Artificial, Natural and Artificial, Nature Identical, and Organic.

Loved the course! Something I'd like to receive is a little more amount of botanicals. I was a little short after cupping them so that limited the amount of product I could use in my blend.

I enjoyed this class very much - and am excited that WTA is expanding the Blending and Flavoring course offerings. This felt like we were just scratching the surface. I would love to learn more about complementary ingredients and how to create a complex interesting blend without "overdoing' it.

This course was very interesting; I enjoyed the hands-on blending and flavoring of the teas. I learned there is much more to the process than putting ingredients together, not to mention all the regulations one must follow. Tea blending and flavoring is an art.

Well organized kit that comes with enough materials to experiment. Gave me lots to consider about blending and how to begin. I appreciate the responses. There was one person who had made a comment during the course and I would have enjoyed reading responses from others. Thank you very much for organizing. I will sign up for other classes after the holidays.f Thank you again. Nami Thompson

A good course that allowed me to fine tune the learnings from a Skill Building Class at the Expo over the summer. I enjoyed the aspects of trying blends at home ourselves. Would have been nice to have a short list of complementary flavorings for blending with the various teas. I know the list is vast but somewhere to start or recommendations from professionals would be helpful.

I really enjoyed the experience of trying my hand at blending. Now I just need a lot more time, practice and more knowledge!

Loads of fun! Thinking about blended, flavored, and scented teas in a whole new way now. I had been a purist before but will definitely be creating my own signature teas now.

Great information - not too overwhelming with extra info. Simply informative on what seems to be most important. I didn't find too intimidating with my experience and interest level. Not totally sure if all assignments made it to instructor. I tried using different formats but still left wondering if readable on instructors end. I would recommend to others if interested. I will refer to course downloads for future reference.

Naiya Feb 25, 2017
This class has been very helpful. I think blending for specific people, occasions, and to certain outcomes has opened up an area where I may be able to "make a lasting impression" in my small circles. Now I know how to do that correctly.

An informative and interesting course! The teas and ingredients provided are high grade, and they arrived right in time for the course.Would like more blending guidelines as to the percentage of ingredients.

I really loved and enjoyed this course! Before taking this course I had very little knowledge about what all was involved in creating tea blends. This course gave me the knowledge I needed to begin practicing a valuable new skill set on my tea journey. Thank you World Tea Academy!

The course has been more practical than I expected so I am very pleased. I would also like to highlight the great value of the videos. Theory is very well explained and I have understood them all even though my English is not as good as I wish.

I very much enjoyed this course. This is a subject that I have been wanting to venture into, especially as I prepare to open a Tea House in town. The tea selections for this course were excellent. Thanks much!

MichaelFeb 20, 2016
Loved this course. I have learned so much & have been able to share my knowledge with my co workers at my tea room. We hosted a tea blending event at my tea room where we sampled 20 different blending components. It was a sell out & the guests loved it. I am looking forward to experimenting with flavorings. (Please see my comments at the end of week 3). Looking forward to taking future classes.

AndrewJul 21, 2015
I have been blending teas with ingredients only. I had not added any liquid flavoring and that is where I lacked confidence. I wanted some guidance in this area. Thank you.
CherylFeb 22, 2015
I have thoroughly enjoyed this class. Cupping each ingredient on it's own was a wonderful experience. Also, I especially enjoyed learning the correct way to flavor and blend. The videos were extremely helpful as well. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this learning experience!
